Year 1

Class 1

Year 1 is taught by Mrs Lawton, and the Teaching Assistants are Miss Lawson and Mrs Holt.

In Year 1the children begin Key Stage 1 After transition from the Foundation stage unit.

School uniform remains a red sweat shirt, white T. shirt, and black or grey trousers or skirt.

The children begin to work on the National Curriculum, that has been adapted by school to match the interests and learning experiences of the children at our school. They learn within this personalised and enriched curriculum throughout their school life at St Wilfrids.

The learning environment in Year 1 is exciting, vibrant but very structured.  There is a structured play area to develop the children’s communication and language skills alongside their personal interaction skills. The theme of this area is at the moment Space.

The children upon entering this area become Space Cadets and they are surrounded by mirrors, rockets, aliens and astronauts.  They cannot fail to have fun while they are learning!

High priority is given to Reading, writing and Calculations. The children are encouraged to read daily with their parents, and a home / school reading record tracks the children’s progress.
