Year 6

Class 6

In Year 6 the children continue within St Wilfrid’s Upper School

The Upper school is led and managed by Mrs Murfin the Deputy Headteacher.
Mrs Murfin is also the  school Assessment and Primary Strategy coordinator. She tracks the progress of every child within the school to ensure that they are making the best possible progress.
Within year six, three teachers team teach; Mrs Murfin, Mr Coat and Miss Parr, and the Teaching Assistant is Miss Williams.

When the children enter Year 6, their school uniform continues to be a black sweat shirt, white T. shirt, and black or grey trousers or skirt.

The uniform includes a sleeveless jacket in black that the children can wear over, or instead of, their black sweat shirt.
Last years SATs results for key stage two were ;
English – 85.7% Level 4 and 28.6% Level 5
Maths – 82% Level 4 and 18% Level 5
Science – 92.9% Level 4 and 64% Level 5

The school was recognised as one of the most improved schools and the results meant that the achievements of our children were in line with those of the best schools nationally.

Year 6 work within a competence based curriculum. This prepares them for transition to high school, and enables them to develop skills required for their key stage 2 SATs in a challenging but exciting curriculum.

Good use is made of ICT, with the children creating animations, films, power point presentations, and this terms development is radio broadcasting.

Modern foreign languages are part of the curriculum. The school has been awarded the International Schools Award for outstanding teaching of mfl. As part of the schools membership to the Global gateway, this class paired with a school in France.
